Information on magazine publishers
I would want a big publisher such as IPC to publish my music magazine. IPC media produces over 60 media brands, some of the most well-known magazines. IPC target audience are almost 66% women. As my magazine is aimed at women I think this would be a good publishing company to work with. IPC claims to have a diverse range of magazines, although I feel there is a gap in the market for my specific target audience. I think say my music; lifestyle magazine would fit into IPC’s upmarket market women criteria. Although my readers may not live an upper-class lifestyle, they would feel that they were upmarket or aspiring to be so. IPC southbank is the upmarket women’s division. This section of IPC media focuses on the two key markets, fashion and lifestyle. I feel although my magazine is a music magazine, it would fit perfectly into this section of interest. IPC southbank is home to some of the most iconic magazine brands such as Marie Claire, InStyle and Essentials. As these are all greatly successful magazines I feel that IPC southbank would be a suitable company to publish my magazine. Bauer is the largest privately owned publisher in Europe and distributes the products multi-nationally meaning that my product would be widely distributed. I feel that Bauer would also be a good publisher for my magazine. Although when having a big multi-national publishing company, there would be less editorial independence, meaning that the company will control and create the magazine how they would like it. Although, competing magazines could be used to help inspire the production of my magazine.
