Original ideas statement

After putting a great amount of research and thought into designing my magazine, I have come up with a range of different ideas that I could use. Firstly I have been thinking a lot about one of the most crucial parts of my magazine, the name of my magazine. I thought of having a quite predictable name such as coast, cruise or surf. Although these are quite cheesy, I think that they are memorable and quite appropriate for the magazine. I thought I could have a punch line under my masthead, although I am still to decide this. I want it to be something witty and catchy. My magazine is going to be about music and lifestyle as I feel that the music can shape a person’s lifestyle, such as the way they dress. The initial thoughts when it came to a target demographic were what gender I was going to aim my magazine at. As I feel there is a gap in the market for music magazines, for my target audience. This then led on to me considering what age group my magazine should be targeted at. I thought that for my target audience, the majority of people would be aged around 17-27 year olds. This is also a good age as most of the people reading my magazine will have a job or career, meaning that they have money to buy things that are advertised in my magazine, earning my company more money. I have decided that I want my magazine packed with in-depth stories, interviews and articles on things like fashion, skating and surfing and festivals. I think that my magazine will be an easy read meaning that I will keep the intellectual level of my magazine at a fairly average standard. This means that I will have a wide audience that will be able to understand and take interest in my articles. My magazine is going to be UK only magazine but may have websites or brands from other companies such as the US.

My magazine is going to be aimed at people who are interested in or want to live a Californian styled lifestyle. This means that in my magazine I must have role models and people that my audience will aspire to be like. I am thinking of having my magazine at the price of around £2.00. I feel that this is a really good price as I am going to have a really packed magazine, so the readers will get a lot for their money. This means that overall my magazine only adds up to costing 50p a week, which I feel is an excellent price!

I wnt my magazine to be similar to NME as it is going to have a lot of band reviews and interviews, tour dates and information, band new, up and coming events and latest releases. I want the fashion side of my magazine to be similar to magazines such as Cosmopolitain, with street spotter pages, style tips and coverage of what’s popular that season. Also Cosmopolitain is all about the high street fashion, meaning that my audience will know how to look great, without having to splash out too much. I want the skating and surfing parts of my magazine to be similar to a magazine such as Sidewalk or Remolition. These magazines consist of large images, tips and tricks; the kind of stuff I would love in my magazine.
