Who would be the audience for your media product?

In the planning of my magazine I decided that I would make a mood board for my target audience. This mood board showed an idea of the type of target audience I thought I might have aimed my magazine at. I decided once I started getting ideas for the magazine, to keep my target audience the same. I emphasised the ‘skater’ girl look like the people I wanted to target for the magazine.

My magazine is aimed at people who have a particular style and a way that they like to dress. A lot of the clothes these people would like to wear would be from the usual high street stores such as H&M and Topshop. But the t-shirts and shoes that these girls like too wear are nearly always branded. I am going to make sure that brands like this are going to be well advertised in my magazine.

I would say that in terms of demographic profiling, my target audience would be from around sixteen years old too twenty five years old. This way I can reach out to the audience without it being a too wider range of people. I can use the type of language that this age group of people will understand. Also as my magazine is music lifestyle, most of the girls that read this magazine will be skaters, meaning usually that they will be younger than some other women that read lifestyle magazines. My target audience are working to middle class people (E, D, C2, and C1). Having a target audience in a certain place in the demographic classification means that I can use language and pictures that I feel are appropriate for people in this level in society. My magazine is aimed at girls/women. I feel that keeping to one gender mean that I can reach my audience better and much more personally. Men and women look for totally different things in magazine, so I feel that with a mixed gender music lifestyle magazine it would be too hard to reach or target the audience personally. The women that would read my magazine would apspire to be the best they can be in every area of their lives, meaning that they are well educated, middle class people looking for a lighter read, and inspiration in different aspects of their lives.
My target audience would buy my magazine as a general interest. My target audience are the kind of people that would like to be up to date with the latest new on bands, fashion and news, so buying my magazine would help them to do so. This is another reason that i have designed an iphone app so that between magazines being published, this way they can buy an extention too my magazine each month for a cheap price, meaning that they would love how technologically savvy the magazine is.
When looking into what could be advertised in my magazine i brainstormed what interests my target audience would have therefore understanding what would be perfect for advertisment. As my audience are creative, some of my readers would be into phorotgraphy and arts, i thought that Duracel would be a really good product to advertise. Batteries would be useful to my audience as they use lots of technical equiptment. I also thought that i would advertise highstreet brands such as topshop, alongside more expensive brands such as Roxy and Volcom. As my audience are middle class, they will have a lot of disposable income, meaning that i am able to advertise and promote more expensive brands than the usual mass market magazine, such as cosmopolitain would. I have to make logical desisions when choosing what i could advertise in my magazine, as somthing like baby food should never happen!
